Hermanus First Fridays Artwalk

On the First Friday of every month the art galleries in the centre of Hermanus remain open until 8pm.  Hermanus First Fridays Artwalk, is part of a world wide initiative to make art and art galleries more available and accessible to the public.  So why not take the time off on the next first Friday of the month to walk through the more than 18 art galleries of central Hermanus?

Take a slow stroll through the village and feast your eyes on local arts and fine crafts, while savouring a glass of wine from one of our local vineyards.

On the first Friday evening of each December, the First Friday galleries host the annual Night of a Thousand Drawings. Everyone can enjoy purchasing an original artwork, even if they are modest in terms of size, visitors will get the opportunity to purchase well know artists’ work for a mere R100 per artwork. All proceeds go to charity. Artists produce paintings, drawings, sketches and illustrations; on paper, card or board; in oils, watercolours, pastels, inks, pencil or charcoal; of landscapes, seascapes, portraits, abstracts or still life compositions.   The artworks are unframed so that you may purchase as group of works and frame them to your taste.

The galleries in Hermanus are an important part of the tourist attraction in Hermanus and it is fast becoming “The Art Destination of the Western Cape”
